So as never to forget
"In a while, even the last of us who were part of this enormous tragedy, will not be here any more. Time will erase the memories of those who are still living, dispersing to the wind the sacrifice of an entirer generation". This is a roughly translated quote from a book by by World War II British Army veteran Harry Shindler and Marco Patucchi entitled "My war is not over". The book tells dozens of stories of people who Mr Shindler has helped truly "end their war" by discovering what happened to their loved ones, and also covers Mr Shindler's own memories of the war, where he participated in the landing at Anzio and the Liberation of Rome. It's a quote Linda Bordoni put to Irma Staderini, a historian at Rome's House of History and Memory which participates in the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust.
