Continuity with the form of Franciscan life
Assisi, 10. “Opening ourselves to the future with hope by revisiting our identity so that without giving up what is not negotiable, it will be possible to respond creatively to the changing reality in which we live. The non-negotiable consists of the evangelical values that gave rise to the Franciscan-Clarian charism and constitute the foundations of our identity” . This is a passage from the concentrated reflection on the timeliness of the Franciscan-Clarian charism, entitled “ Con lo sguardo fisso sugli iniz i”, which Fr José Rodríguez Carballo, OFM, Minister General of the Friars Minor, has published with a view to 11 August, the Memorial of St Clare of Assisi and the day of the conclusion of the celebrations for the eighth centenary of her consecration. Various celebrations will be taking place at Assisi and at San Damiano, in the Basilica di Santa Chiara and in the Porziuncola. In particular the official conclusion will take place with the return of the relic of St Clare's hair to the Basilica in Assisi that is dedicated to her, on the afternoon of 11 August, during the solemn Eucharistic celebration on the death of Mother Clare, at which Father José Rodríguez Carballo ofm,Minister General of the Friars Minor will preside. On the afternoon of the same day a moment of prayer will precede the dedication precisely to St Clare of a cloister at the Shrine of the Porziuncola. Seven works of art in oils on panels painted by Aurelio Bruni, a statue of the Saint sculpted by Piero Casentini and a ceramic work by Rebecca Becker will be unveiled at the dedication.
